About

Welcome to my blog.

I’m Matt Ryanczak, wearer of many hats. I currently live in Washington D.C. I maintain this site as a hobby and an opportunity to share knowledge and fun stuff with others (and so I don’t forget the details!). I work for Pandora Media Inc. where I manage their east coast datacenters, contribute to day to day (and night!) technical operations and generally try to help make the product awesome. I’m a computer and networking geek, a bit devops, a bit netops, security curmedgeon, project manager and a lot of other stuff as required. I’m also into hacking electronics, picking locks and just about any type of science and technology. Linux is my OS of choice though I also think very highly of OpenBSD, FreeBSD and OS/X. I’ve run Linux on my desktop since the ’90s and don’t see that changing anytime soon. I’ve done a lot of work on getting Linux running on Apple hardware and switch between OSX and Linux on my Macbook Pro. I’m currently running Ubuntu but also use Mint, Centos and Debian regularly.

I’ve spoken on topics such as IPv6 and security at Defcon, LISA, NANOG, and other venues such as Lawrence Berkeley Labs. I’ve written articles for blogs such as The IPv6 Experts and magazines such as USENIX login;. I was a guest on Packet Pushers Radio a while back which was a lot of fun.

I enjoy speaking about the Internet, Linux and other technical topics and try to get out and do this sort of thing regularly. I intend to continue writing and would like to get a book out the door in the next year or so.

About this site: This site is running on a custom built server running Debian Linux. The server is located in Fairfax Virginia, USA, at a datacenter run by the Northern Virginia Internet Access Cooperative. IPv4 transit is via Cox Communications and IPv6 transit is provided by Hurricane Electric via their tunnelbroker service. I’m currently using Octopress as my blogging platform.
